:: food @ Laos ::

There isn't anything special about Laos cuisine. Having said that, we have enjoyed their local food immensely with some being familiar to our own.

Does this look like our very own you-tiao and ham-chee-piang? Somewhat similar, but i still prefer ours (:

Why is wz drinking beer Lao at broad daylight?
coz it can be soo darn quenching.
Our almost daily lunch menu. Superbly favorful & light
Their street delights.. you guessed it. very sweet indeed..
A 3-storey cafe at Luang Prabang, very popular with tourists as they are featured in Lonely Planet.. I'm a sucker for that too..
Cant really agree with laos kopi, so this is a great caffeine fix
French-inspired baguette & very crispy croissant, commonly found in these ex-french colonies How can we miss these local delicacies..
Our daily dinner must-have "BBQ fish"

:: Backpacking @ Laos ::

30.10.2010 - 06.11.2010

Laos is alot more commercialized than expected. Thus travelling around their cities is much more convenient and comfortable as compared to Myanmar.
Which is a pity ironically.
Free wifi from guesthouses to eateries meaning constant connected.
Almost like you have not stepped out of SG.

:: Vientiane ::

Victory Gate of Vientiane ~ Arc de Triomphe Wat Sisaket - that houses 10,136 Buddha statues

:: Vang Vieng::
The Place to get high & wet along Nam Song river
Caving, Tubing, Canoeing, Somersaulting off the swing – if you dare
Friends sitcom screening at bars

Or leisure cycling.. albeit on rather rocky roads

very cool ah-beng huh?

:: Luang Prabang ::
Kuangsi Waterfall Park

Café lounging

shopping spree of local handicrafts
One thing you can't miss – simply breathtaking sunset almost every evening, anywhere

^.^

:: Maldives Live Onboard ::

26.02.2011 – 05.03.11

Blue clear sky. White sandy beach. Superb visibility
Graceful manta. Whirlpool of sharks. Whalesharks sight. Chasing dolphins

What more can i ask for?

:: The Jackson Plan ::

40 Duxton Hill

This is one perk about my job. I get to try new restaurants (:

A ‘very english’ gastrobar, according to my boss, with the vintage tiled and furniture not unlike our local kopitiam. A casual setup good for large group of gatherings as well.

Potted Smoked Mackerel, Rye Toast
Generous portion of the mackerel which is Inhouse-made, not too salty. A pity that there were only 4 slices of the toast.

Crab Cakes, Quail Eggs, Anchovy Cream
Warm and crumbly to the bite, and a very pretty presentation of the little sunny-side ups

Scallops, Black Pudding, Smoked Cheese
Black pudding, essentially pig’s blood congealed, has to be the highlight of this dish. Slightly sweet and chewy. (think this is no longer on the menu)

Luckily we did not googled about black pudding beforehand, my companion might not have enjoyed her meal :P

Eccles Cakes, with rum and raisin ice cream
Caramelized raisins pastry, that went down well with a cuppa
A sweet ending too
Total damages ~ $100
Will I go back again? maybe for their set lunch (lighter on my wallet).

:: Table 66 ::

66 Tras St

My first time participation during the dining week.
SGD 25++ for set lunch
I have originally made reservations at 3 restaurants, but alas due to some unforeseen circumstance, I could only attended this one.

We were seated at the hallway into the main dining area. Was not entirely thrilled as it was very distracting with the guests walking about, especially they had a very distinguised guest visiting that day.
Very attentive staff, who kept checking if the pot of warm water required top-up. Prompt serving of dishes too.

Onion bread first served was warm and flavorful.

For starter, we chose Tuna Ala Nicoise - seared tuna was done nicely and with the white sesame dressing was a good light starter to the main course.

Both of us rarely fancied lamb, but the lamb shank served was wonderfully fall-off tender. Well braised, yet not overly salty in an attempt to musk the lamb-smell.
We were quite apprehensive about ordering lamb initially. A huge portion too

Coffee cake paired with blueberries (?). I love the rice-crisp bottom, and coffee-laden sponge layer inbetween. Great contrast on the palate when mixed with the berries.

Lovely lunch affair.
